Atfield Technologies produces tools for mobile and truly remote data driven management of vineyeards
As part of their journey on BlockStart’s 3rd Acceleration Programme, as an SME adopter, they were looking for new opportunities for collaboration with technology providers of DLT/blockchain solutions that could improve their business. This is the testimonial of their experience in our programme.
In one paragraph, what is Atfield Technologies?
Atfield Technologies delivers solutions for data-driven management of agriculture, and we’ve started with vineyards as one of the most explored crops with the highest added value of the final product.
What is Atfield Technologies passionate about achieving?
Atfield develops a micro-location analysis tool, that will be widely applicable as an enabler of future autonomous agriculture. We want to build and validate “at field” a set of data-fusion tools for remote, continuous and accurate characterization of conditions at every micro-site in agriculture.
Can you tell us why you have decided to apply to BlockStart’s 3rd Call for end-user SMEs?
Our primary goal was to quickly catch more info about the latest solutions that could provide blockchain from-the-edge – something that we could apply in IoT scenarios and as close as possible to our sensors.
The initial goal has been achieved after the two-day info session, on which we were in position to hear and meet 25 companies. This brief series of well-prepared and properly selected pitches, created great opportunity for organizing 1:1 meetings, on which we’ve discussed details with seven companies. It was very efficient way to explore new partnerships and share knowledge. We felt like none of the parties had any objection to help and assist in shaping some new product on market that we knew best.
After such positive experience, we’ve decided to participate in the second phase.
What major challenges have you faced during the implementation/testing of BlockStart’s blockchain-based solution?
We’ve got quite good overview of potential partners and their willingness/capabilities, finally compatibility to assist us in developing something new. After this, we really did not feel that there were any real challenged ahead. Process was quite smooth. With great assistance of BlockTac, we’ve managed to use public blockchain with good trade-off of costs. This helped us in initial shaping potentially new tool for insurance agriculture.
What kind of impact do you think the blockchain-based solution you have implemented in the scope of BlockStart may bring to your company?
We’ve accelerated adoption of blockchain as a tool and built new PoC with minimal effort. We’re now in the process of final shaping the marketable use case.
Where do you see your company in 5 years?
Atfield will be one of the leading technology enablers of autonomous agriculture. We aim for global market and expanding the concept to many other perennial cultures.
